My original night photography website started in 1999. Many people told me they loved the design of the original site. Unfortunately, the double-indexed, double-linked hyperlinks became a nightmare to maintain. Night and Landscape photography taken at dusk and dawn by David Burdeny. Made along the shorelines of Japan, Northern France, and the Pacific Northwest this recent body of work thematically continues my interest in the thresholds that divide and connect the sea to land. Through these journeys I attempt to communicate a universality or homogeneity in these disparate locations. I'm fascinated with the quality of light and the spatial immensity the ocean possesses. I have an enormous reverence for feeling so small in the presence of something so vast, where perspective, scale, time and distance momentarily become intangible. Light is amazing and mysterious stuff. It defines how we visually perceive our world and yet it is intangible and untouchable. Light is also the photographer's palette; by taking a photograph we are capturing and gathering light, 'painting' on film. The Play of Light is an exploration of capturing light over time on film. These long exposures cause elements that move to disappear or change their form, night to appear day, the normal to appear mysterious. Take a close look at each photograph. Take your time with them. Welcome to nightphotographer.com, an online gallery of unusual, striking night photography. Since so many interesting details seem to get lost in the shadows after dark, I sometimes use special lighting effects in my night photography. These colorful highlights are created by adding colored light to the scene, on location during the time exposures. None of these lighting effects have been created digitally or in the darkroom. - Read more

Paul Tierney has been professionally involved - in one capacity or another - with display fireworks for 30 years. This site represents my collection of photographs taken at some of the shows I have seen in the UK. The earlier ones, 1999 and before, are only small in number and are unclassified. As the collection has grown I have made greater efforts to note the company as well as the occasion. Several of these photographs have been published in print on fireworks suppliers' catalogues publicity material and websites, in various magazines, and in print and digitally on study material by the Royal Society of Chemistry. - Read more
